The case of wisdom teeth
Why is an oral surgeon needed? Wisdom teeth often fail to erupt properly, become stuck in the bone, tangle with the roots of the tooth in front, or cause inflammation under the gum covering them. The oral surgeon manages these more complex situations with confidence and care.
Apicoectomy: the tooth’s last chance
Sometimes inflammation around the root tip remains even after a perfect root canal treatment. In such cases this procedure can be the solution, and the tooth does not necessarily need to be extracted. Through a small incision, the surgeon removes the very end of the root and the inflamed tissue around it, so the tooth can remain in place for many more years.
Bone grafting – when there is nowhere to build
After a prolonged missing tooth, the bone can thin. If we want an implant but there is not enough “foundation”, we thicken the area with bone grafting material (which may be your own bone or a special granule). An example is sinus floor elevation (Sinus Lift), where at the upper jaw we raise the floor of the maxillary sinus to make room for the implant.

Blood draw: Before surgery begins, we take a very small amount of your blood (similar to a routine lab test).

Centrifugation: The tubes are placed in a specialised machine that spins them at high speed.

Extracting the active material: During centrifugation the blood separates. A gelatinous, yellowish material gathers at the top of the tube. This is the fibrin clot, which concentratedly contains your body’s own growth factors and white blood cells.

Placement: We place this dense material directly into the extraction or surgical site.
