Restoring the joy of chewing
Replacing missing teeth is not only important for aesthetics. When we lose a tooth, the others try to take over its role, so they begin to drift or tip, while the opposing tooth may erupt further from its socket, seeking its missing neighbour. In the long term this can lead to clicking and pain in the jaw joint.
Our restorative solutions
Depending on the extent of the gap and the condition of the tooth, we choose the most suitable, lasting restoration.
Crowns: the tooth’s “helmet”
If a tooth is heavily decayed or has had root canal treatment (and is therefore brittle), we protect it with a crown. It is like a precisely fitting helmet that holds the tooth together and guards against further fractures. In terms of material, zirconia ceramic is the most commonly used today: it contains no metal, so the unpleasant greyish margin along the gum can be avoided, and its light transmission is completely natural.
Bridges: spanning the gap
When one or more teeth are missing, we can use the neighbouring teeth as abutments and build a “bridge” over them. This is a fixed restoration that does not need to be removed, and with proper cleaning its comfort is almost identical to natural teeth.
Inlay and Onlay: the “inlays”
There are cases when the cavity is already too large for a conventional filling to bear the load, yet the tooth is still fortunate enough to be rebuilt without a crown. In such cases our colleagues take an impression, and based on this the dental technician fabricates the missing portion in porcelain. This is much more durable and precise than any filling made in the mouth.
Removable restorations (Dentures)
There is a solution even for larger gaps or complete edentulism. Modern dentures are no longer mere false teeth — combined with implants (for example with a “snap-on” solution) they can be made not to shift during chewing or speech, restoring the patient’s ability to chew and, more importantly, their confidence.
